CROSSING RACIAL BARRIERS

In the church, crossing racial barriers isn't near as difficult as crossing social class barriers. But both take effort. I hope that having good diverse relationships is something that most all believers are concerned about. I just finished reading a book so that I can learn more about my black brothers and sisters, and that will help me better cross racial barriers in relationships. Its called "St Louis: Disappearing Black Communities" by John Wright. Here are some quotes from it. "In the 1960's the two sides of the streets that flowed into Whitney Avenue were fenced off to prevent access from the black community." and "at Lambert Air Field... When the Navy facility acquired a swimming pool, the black sailors were not allowed to swim except on days when the pool was to be drained. Whites thought blacks should be made to clean the rec hall which they could not use." This was also in the 1960's. So these are just some of the reasons we have trouble with race relations, and some of the reasons we should strive toward reconciliation.
